Harmony Week

For Harmony Week 2022, we reached out to international food venues across Beaufort Street to talk about their experiences bringing a little bit of their home culture to Inglewood.

We wanted to show off how you can still find wonderful, authentic international food even when our Night Markets break for the colder months.

We captured videos throughout our lovely strip, and the project was even featured on ABC Radio! See the segment and videos below:

CPTED Report

Exploring Crime, Traffic Risks and Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED)

We are thrilled to say that our CPTED report is finished and available for all to read! Commissioned by Inglewood on Beaufort and our local MLA, Lisa Baker with funding from the State Government’s Local Projects Local Jobs initiative the report assesses the built form “environment” of Beaufort Street and the adjacent laneways and how they impact upon individuals safety and what could be done to improve it. Prepared by Curtin Universities Dr Paul Cozens and Dr Courtney Babb, the report will be invaluable for Inglewood on Beaufort and everyone in our local area as it gives us evidence based insights that will support future grants or appeals in the future months and years to come.

On 3 December Chair, Damien Giudici and local MLA, Lisa Baker officially launched the CPTED report at the Inglewood Town Square, where the report was handed over to the City of Stirling and it is officially available for all to read right here: CPTED Beaufort Street Survey

Damien had this to say about the new report and launch:

We’ve seen the benefits of the CPTED report in Maylands in identifying community perceptions of their neighbourhood and it provides an evidence base upon which to respond.  As such we were convinced commissioning a similar report would benefit Inglewood.

While Inglewood’s crime statistics are pretty average in a metropolitan context, with a CPTED report in hand we’re more confident of where to invest our time and resources into the public realm.

The launch is just a way to announce the document has gone public. It’s now available on the website for the community to read and with the formal handing over of copies to the City of Stirling we hope to see them become collaborators in resolving some of the safety issues identified in the report.”

If you took part in the survey, or simply want to find out what the results are then please read it.

Inglewood Business Rentals – Feel right at home in the ‘Wood.

What do Microsoft, Disney and AirBnB have in common?
They all started in a recession.

So, are you a fledgling work from home start-up but not taken the next step to taking up an office address? Or are you well established but thinking of moving into a new suburb with better amenities and closer to your customers? Or looking for a bigger and better space to suit your business needs?

If so, there are some amazing opportunities going in Inglewood, that may well be the answer. Inglewood on Beaufort has done the leg work and tracked down a variety of spaces, small (sub 50sqm) to large (over 500sqm) currently up for rent, from long term leases to weekly rentals, that range from being fitted out to vacant, some modern, some character and all things in between that will suit all budgets, businesses and customers.

And if you lease in Inglewood and surrounds, you:

  • Get to be part of a vibrant business community that already contains great Independent and National retailers, restaurants, cafes and commercial enterprises;
  • Will be located on one of Perth’s most well-known streets, Beaufort Street, with great exposure (circa 25,000 vehicles per day) and access with easy parking and good transport links;
  • Can settle in before Woolworths (opening early 2021) and Aldi (commencing development in late 2020); and
  • Will enjoy support from your friendly local community group. Yes, that’s us!

So, if you are looking to expand off your kitchen table or trade up or down then check out these amazing spaces currently available:

Under 50sqm

Character corner of the Inglewood Clocktower at 919 Beaufort Street. This space has the well-established and well-frequented Finlay and Sons, Favourite Daughter, DeVine Cellars and Treadways mere steps away. A savvy retailer or commercial business (think, real estate) that likes maximum exposure and to be in the heart of the action can’t go wrong here and if the corner doesn’t take your fancy, the space next door at 110sqm is also available here.

If well located and competitively priced office space is the requirement, a choice of 2 spaces in the same building at 870 Beaufort Street (between Eighth and Ninth Avenue) is available with unit two here and unit three here.

Finally if its small space in a small timeframe, then look no further than this funky little option on Eighth Ave.

Around and under 100sqm spaces

Join the successful Trio Café by moving in next door, roomy and light near 1st Ave.

Say hello to potential business neighbours Betty and Dave’s, Mandi at Home and Ankara Kebabs in the character buildings next to the Inglewood Hotel

Join neighbours like, 2nd Ave IGA, Three Coins and the Lotus Flower Thai, with this 75sqm spick and span space.

Nestled in the heart of the Inglewood shopping strip and next to some big hitting food joints, Hoodburger and Golden Star Chinese you will find a unique opportunity. Call the creator behind the concept, Adam Musbah as there are a number of options to become part of a cluster of cool go to F&B retailers and if you like sea containers, then this may be the place for you!

The iconic Inglewood Clocktower has more to offer with this larger space. Spacious, with greater exposure and options to address the street, this could provide an iconic address with heaps of history and close to Finlay and Sons for your daily coffee.

Large and blank canvas spaces:

This amazing, industrial space is perfect for a multitude of different businesses; hairdressers, a grocers, fashion, restaurant, coffee shop, some of the funkiest office space you can get?! All opposite the new-to-Inglewood Woolworths, opening in 2021!

This little gem, opposite the Post Office, really is in the heart of Inglewood. Once a bank, now a fantastic opportunity? With great exposure, plenty of on-site and street parking, join La Luna, Kingsize Menswear and Inglewood Optometrists and get a daily fix of cinnamon scrolls from Sugar and Nice, as well as take advantage of eating a Black Pig Deli lunch in our new Inglenooks? Great neighbours to have, right?

Across the road from that is some spacious options to rent behind the local Post Office. Sandwiched between the Post Office and local favourite, Il Pasto there are 2 spaces available that would allow for a myriad of options but not least office for one and with a commercial kitchen in the other, options for a restaurant, café or “dark kitchen”.

And if being next door to not one, but two Italian eateries is a requirement, then this is the space for you! This business has been a print shop for nearly 40 years with the last tenants moving the business closer to their home. It’s a great space with some rare Beaufort Street off street parking directly outside the property. Did we mention there are two Italian eateries either side??!

New Spaces not yet available

Are you a business that is just started and think you need a few months post COVID to get your ducks in a row? Luckily we have some fabulous developments coming soon to Beaufort Street and Inglewood.

The much anticipated Woolworths will be opening its doors in early 2021 and has shop leases available from 65sqm – 128sqm.

Not to be left out, the Aldi development, not yet commenced but anticipated for completion by late 2021/ early 2022 has slightly larger offerings on offer from 68sqm – 259sqm.

There are 5 ground floor tenancies ranging in size from 70 sqm to 267 sqm as part of the Sky Home Apartments, developed by Nicheliving.  These new spaces could be perfect for a consultancy, retail or as cool office space and being part of an apartment development that is set to be one of the smartest and most sustainable buildings on offer if you have a green business, this space could be a great fit for you!

Lastly, the newest development by local ex pro-cyclist turned coffee-loving-property-developer, Tim Willing of Willing Developments is a seriously cool option. With his family still living on Clifton Crescent and a fond memory of the Deli growing up, we are sure that Willing Group will do Mount Lawley/ Inglewood proud with this bold new development. A mix of residential and commercial, there are options for people keen to live and work from home, but not any home, a place designed for this purpose with the creation of 15 “Shop-Houses”. So, with a great little coffee shop on the corner who wouldn’t love to have a meeting with a business in this development!

Any local entrepreneurs out there? It’s time to get cracking!

So, in the midst of some crazy times in 2020, we know that there are people plotting out great things.  If that is you then it’s worth investigating some of these awesome Inglewood opportunities that can be acted upon now, or in 6-12 months time.

Easter Bunnies to make at home.

Easter is coming! Make some bunnies with this free downloadable PDF.

It will be a strange Easter this year for many. With COVID-19 and social distancing it will mean no big family or friends gatherings but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something fun
We have seen the rise of the Inglewood bear and rainbow hunt and it has been a hit! With over 100 properties displaying colourfulness for passers by to spot and enjoy. And, lets face it, it’s a great way to distract the kids* and give them an activity for the morning!

So, let’s make some bunnies and make them part of the festivities too? Decorate with some cool accessories or have fun playing with them just as they are. It’s a great activity to waste spend some quality time with the young or young at heart. Let’s grab some pens and maybe some cheeky glitter glue and get creative!

First things first:

🐰- Download the pdf

🐰 – Print the plain bunny page to decorate yourself or the pre-coloured page to cut out and stick together.

🐰- Add on any accessories you want. The cut-outs are a bit fiddly, so adult supervision, or adult cutting is advised.

👓 Do you want to add glasses, a bowtie or a flower garland headband?
🥚Or how about a decorated egg?!

🐰- Glue or tape on the ears and additional pieces and glue onto the tube then wrap around and secure.

💜 We’d love to see your creations, so if you upload them to your socials then please tag @inglewoodonbeaufort on Facebook or Instagram.

🚨 IMPORTANT TOILET TUBE MESSAGE! Some homes may not have any tubes. Some may have many! The design has been tested without using inner tubes and they stands up.

We have a new Favourite in Inglewood

Say whaaaat?! A concept store that promotes conscious shopping, positive body image and community driven living?  Of course we wanted to find out about the incredibly fierce ladies behind Favourite Daughter.

Favourite Daughters Scout and Finn

So, we dragged Scout and Finn away from ‘Say Yes To The Dress’ for 10 minutes to give us the low-down on what it’s like running their new store, Favourite Daughter.

What is the business about?

Favourite Daughter is the creation and collaboration of sisters Scout and Finlay Rayner. Favourite Daughter is a family owned and managed Activewear, Wellness and Lifestyle Boutique. The aim of our business is to design a place to promote conscious consumerism, sustainable living and positive relationships between ones self and their communities.

What is unique about your business?

Favourite Daughter combines activewear, lifestyle and wellness into one place. Our uniqueness lies in our encouragement of sustainable and community driven living. Sustainability and work ethics are important to us, so we seek as much as possible to use brands that embrace our philosophy and ideology.

How did you get your concept for the business?

Inglewood is a growing community hub, with a growing selection of fitness, yoga and pilates centres. We love working out and wearing activewear, but we found there is a lack of activewear available in our area. With our customer base having to rely on online shopping or driving to the other side of Perth we felt there was definitely a niche for what we offer. We are also super conscious of what skincare products we use and this is where the wellness side comes in.

We were inspired to create a space to combine these passions and therefore Favourite Daughter only stocks cruelty free, organic and chemical free skincare products. And coupled with our hand selected pieces we are hoping our customers will curate a wardrobe full of consciously consumed pieces which have been bought and handled with care and love while simultaneously building the culture and vibe of our Inglewood community.

How did you decide on your brand name ‘Favourite Daughter’?

Well, our parents café, Finlay and Sons (across the road) is named after Finlay, so she gets asked a lot if she is the favourite daughter. We also get asked a lot if the next cafe will be named after Scout or our little sister Harper and when we started this venture we sat around joking, “are we going to call this one after the favourite daughter”. And well, that’s it.

Why Inglewood? What’s your story, tell us about yourselves?

Why not Inglewood!?
You may have seen us around at Finlay and Sons, we have been in Inglewood for four years now and we love the incredible atmosphere of the community! A huge passion for the both of us is the growing lack of connectedness within “modern” neighbourhoods. Through Finlay and Sons, and now Favourite Daughter, we wish to extend the growing Inglewood Beaufort Street strip to create a hub for the community. There is a great energy in Inglewood with the creation of many new businesses in a range of fields so it is very exciting to be able to contribute to that.

Describe your ideal customer?

It is critical to our ethos and business concept that our store and products are inclusive. Our ideal customer covers a wide age bracket with pricing inclusive to both younger and more mature customers. The selection of our brands has been centred on the idea of promoting body positivity so you will find a wide range of sizes to fit all bodies in new and innovative styles and designs. Currently we will have only women’s products because we believe it’s important to create a safe space for women to feel confident and free from the male gaze. Don’t worry guys there could be a potential Favourite Son in the future!

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Coffee at Finlay’s.
Coffee at Finlay’s.
Coffee at Finlays.
But also the idea that we can go to work and help people better their lives by feeling confident, strong and beautiful. A hugely motivating aspect is through stocking sustainable products and promoting conscious consumerism we hope to create a more meaningful shopping experience.

All the skin care and wellness products that will be stocked are vegan, cruelty free, organic and with recycled packaging. By selecting only these products we wish to contribute to the reduction of harmful chemicals that are prevalent in the industry and instead promote natural wellness based products.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Scout: At the moment it’s a workout in the morning, a business meeting and coffee at Finlay’s and then the workday starts at Favourite Daughter. I love days when we get new products in and we put them into our system. Little Harper has been the best help! She unboxes things, organises them into sizes and then scans them for me while I enter the data into the system. Sorry Finn, but she does a better job than you!

Finlay: hahaha that’s fine, she does a good job. I’m also at uni at the moment studying Arts and Commerce, so most of my work gets done in the afternoon and I found working out at night is best for me. We do love working out together but our schedules at the moment don’t completely match up.

Most memorable facepalm moment?

Scout: Hitting myself in the face with a resistance band because I didn’t wrap it around my foot properly.
Yes, I 100% cried.

What’s the most rewarding thing about running your own business?

The most rewarding aspect so far has been the ability to be creative and to work together as a family to make our vision come true.

What’s the smartest business hack you use?!

Use your community! The people we have met so far have helped us so much! From showing us the ins and outs of the fashion industry, helping us decide the best software and connecting us to more people.

Favourite coffee haunt?

Shoutout to Finlay and Sons no 917 (obviously). All business meetings are taken exclusively there. Even when we aren’t working we are there for an iced long black and soldier eggs.

Guilty pleasure?

CHOCOLATE ALMONDS and watching ‘Say Yes To the Dress’. Will she go with the sweetheart neckline or the a-line fit and flare!?
Will her mum not like it?
Will this episode make us cry?
Such suspense!

Favourite Daughter is open now!

EOFY time again. Are you tax ready?

With 30 June creeping up on us, it’s the right time to get organised for the end of financial year. So get in touch with some of our friendly local businesses who are nuts about the numbers…

There will be some of you that have already started chatting to a financial adviser. We asked Bobby and Krystal at Ultimate Tax their top 5 pieces of advice for an easy tax time for business owners.
1. Do some ‘tax planning’ to see how things are looking at the current rate. Figure out what can be put in place to minimise any tax consequences.
2. Review your current tax structure and see if it’s working for you.
3. Review your profit & loss and balance sheet. This is definitely something business owners don’t do enough!
4. Are your income and expenses correctly coded? Make notes of where you should cut/increase spending next year.
5. Could the increased $30,000 instant asset write-off be of use to your business?

Bobby at Ultimate Tax is itching to see if he can save you some $$$ this financial year. It’s not too late to find out more, go to Ultimate Tax and book an appointment.

It’s not only businesses that need to make sure they are tax ready.

Donna at Raymond K. H. Ho & Associates Pty Ltd (CPA Accountants) has kindly broken down for us the big topics this year. And it’s all about making sure you have everything to prove you are claiming the right tax.
She writes:
“A consistent theme this year is the over claiming of expenses and under reporting of income. With the Australian Taxation Office getting more sophisticated in its data matching, taxpayers can expect greater scrutiny. To claim a deduction, you need to have incurred the expense, with a record proving you incurred the expense and it relates directly to your work. This also means ensuring that you only claim the work-related part of items you use personally, such as mobile phones and internet services.”

What’s new in Superannuation?

This is the first year of new measures that enable people who have been out of the work force to top up their superannuation.
If you have:
• A total superannuation balance below $500,000 as at 30 June; and
• Not utilized your entire concessional contributions cap ($25,000) for the year.

Then you can ‘carry forward’ the unused amount on a rolling 5 year basis.

What’s new in Business?

Donna explains: “Single touch payroll (STP) reporting has changed the way businesses report salary and wages, PAYG withholding and superannuation contribution information to the ATO. From 1 July 2019, all business will need to use STP although there is some leniency for micro businesses struggling with implementation.”

At this taxing time (!) it’s good to know there is someone like Donna right here on Beaufort Street who knows what to ask and where to start, so get in touch Raymond K. H. Ho & Associates Pty Ltd

Inglewood opens our minds to Clear Mind Studio!

Welcome to the ‘Wood Karen and Craig!

As soon as Karen and Craig got in touch with Inglewood On Beaufort they introduced themselves and their new business, Clear Mind Studio, we were excited, because it was going to be a dedicated studio focussing on the cleansing of your mind as well as your body. And, the only open floatation tank in Perth!

Therefore, we wanted to find out more….

1// What is the business about?
Clear Mind Studio is an ‘Urban Retreat for the Mind.’ A place where you can relax, unwind, and leave feeling like a better version of yourself.

We are a wellness studio offering floatation therapy, infrared sauna, yoga, mat pilates, remedial massage and wellness workshops.

We aim to create a mindful community by hosting weekly free community evenings.

2// What is unique about your business?
We have a few unique features which we are excited about. There are many people that would like to try floating but have never tried it because they are claustrophobic or anxious. That’s when we decided to introduce an open float pool, which is a 2.5m diameter circular pool situated in it’s own private temperature and humidity-controlled room, so you get all the float pod benefits but there’s no lid to close. It’s big enough to fit two people, so you can float with your bestie in the same pool. We shipped it over from England, and it will be Perth’s only open float pool!

We are the only studio in Perth to have both floatation therapy and a yoga studio.  I love floatation, but it always takes me 20 mins or so to get into the zone, and I thought why has no one combined yoga with floatation. In Shavasana, at the end of a yoga class, I feel so relaxed I don’t want to leave, wouldn’t it be great to just slip into a float pod instead of leaving.

We also have an infrared yoga sauna, for all the hot yoga fans!

3// How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
In the last few years we have been on our own health and wellbeing journey. I found the only thing that really made me feel good was meditation and floatation. I tried to pursued Craig to buy a float tank for our house, but we would have to lose our spare bedroom! The idea grew arms and legs as we realised that instead of driving around the city floating, doing yoga, getting a massage, or infrared sauna in different places, we could create a wellness studio with everything under one roof.

We always wanted to have our own business. Craig used to work FIFO and it wasn’t really working out for our family life so when he was made redundant it was the perfect time to follow our dreams.

4// How did you decide on your brand name ‘CLEAR MIND STUDIO’?
I kept a note in my phone and every time I thought of a name I wrote it down (I still have the list!). None of the names really stuck, then I heard someone talk about ‘clearing their mind’ and I thought it was perfect for our studio.

5// What’s your story, tell us about yourselves?
Clear Mind is owned by my husband, Craig and I (Karen).  We’re originally from Scotland.  Craig moved to Perth 7 years ago to work in the oil and gas industry. A few months after he moved to Perth he came back to Europe for a holiday to Ibiza, and that’s where we met! He persuaded me to move to Perth to be with him.  I took a leap of faith and now we’ve been married almost 3 years (and I’ve been in Perth 5 years).

When we’re not at the studio were usually out for breakfast or coffee in the local neighbourhood or hanging out with our golden retriever, Amber, who features heavily on our Instagram

6// Why Inglewood?
Inglewood is a great neighbourhood (and its close to our home).

It has an amazing community feel and there’s loads of awesome small businesses already in the area that compliment our biz. The Monday Night Market brings together so many people and we want to add to it by offering our free wellness talks to the community. We often think how lucky we are to be opening a business on Beaufort street.

7// Describe your ideal customer?
Me! I am our ideal customer! Stressed, anxious and in need of a pick me up both physically and mentally.

8// What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Our dog, Amber, jumps on the bed at 5.55am every morning ‘cause she knows it’s walkies time. I’m definitely a morning person. I really struggle with events that involve being awake after 9.30pm.

9// Most memorable facepalm moment?
I thought we would be open last December, then it moved to early March, then late March, then April and now we finally have an opening date of 4th June.   I just didn’t consider how long the council would take to do their side of the paperwork.  In hindsight it’s kinda amusing that I originally thought we’d open before Christmas. What was I thinking!?

10// What’s the most rewarding thing about running your own business?
Being your own boss and knowing that your decisions will make a difference (good or bad!). The best thing is knowing that you are offering the community something that could make their lives better. Owning your own infrared sauna is pretty cool too!

11// What’s the smartest business or life hack you use?!
Meditation! It changed my life.  You can start as easy as downloading an app for your phone with guided meditations to follow.

Whenever I feel in a slump or feel like I have no creative energy I go for a float.  It helps me clear my thoughts and think up new ideas.

An infrared sauna is a great pick up too, if you’re feeling a bit under the weather.

At home our smartest hack is getting a weekly organic veg box delivered.  So, even when we’ve been super busy working in the studio and haven’t had time for the weekly shop, we still have a fridge full of fruit and veg.

12// Company’s mantra?
I wrote Clear Mind Studio’s Mission Statement pretty early on in the biz process:
An Urban Retreat for the Mind.
A Peaceful Place to Escape to When Your Thoughts Feel Out of Sync.
A Community Ready to Nourish Your Journey Towards Inner Peace and Calm.
A Place to Clear Your Mind, Gather Your Thoughts and Restore Your Glow, Leaving a Better You, Ready to Enrich the World Around You.

13// Who is / are your role model(s)?
I really admire people who have quit their professional or corporate career to follow their dreams.  Therefore, when something isn’t aligning with them and they do something about it.  Most of our yoga teachers and staff have previous corporate backgrounds which they quit for a better life.

14// Favourite coffee haunt?
Ooooh That’s such a difficult question ‘cause I love coffee!’  I love Finlay and Sons for a coffee catch-up with friends or Betty and Dave’s for a quick takeaway coffee if we’re busy.  If it’s a post dog walk coffee, we like Cool Breeze at Riverside Gardens or Holly Rayes in Bassendean.

15// Guilty pleasure?
Craig’s guilty pleasure is the chicken burger at Finlay and Sons.  We often have the ‘is it too early for a burger’ convo (If you’re wondering, the answer is no, ‘cause it’s on the breakfast menu!).

I’m a burger fan too and we have been known to visit Hoodburger from time to time whilst working late in the studio.  It’s all about balance though – our days usually start with a green juice or smoothie.

16// When does the business open?
Our studio opens 4th June with a 2 weeks unlimited yoga for $60 special.  Our floatation therapy will open at the end of the month.

After all that, who wouldn’t want to get in touch with Karen, Craig and the Clear Mind Studio gang? And, there are lots of ways to see what they are about and book a class.

Going Krazy for new business Kustom Klaws

10 With… Kustom Klaws

Ever since we caught wind of a new business opening up the northern end of Beaufort Street, we were curious. The shop – one of the cutest shop fronts going – was always a shame being empty. Then, over the course of a weekend in April, it was PINK with beautiful black Art Deco features, we took a little bit more notice and decided to see just who this little pink shop belonged to. Inglewood, meet Kenjai from Kustom Klaws…

1// How long have you been in business?

Not long! Officially only 12 months. We’ve been running out of a beauty salon in Claremont for the last year and now it’s time for us to spread our wings and fly! In our short 12 months in business, we’ve quickly established ourselves as a multi-award winning, boutique salon.

2// Tell us about yourself – what is your background?

A lot of my clients know me from my time as a burlesque performer. I’m an international, multi-award winning burlesque performer. Until last year I was quite an active performer and have toured the world performing burlesque.
Business life has kept me too busy for the stage, but I’m making a sneaky come back…. in fact, people can catch me in June, I’m one of the top 8 finalists competing for the Miss Burlesque WA State final at the Astor Theatre!
But by day… I was a sad little public servant until 2017 when I was made redundant. I took it as a sign from the heavens and decided to throw caution to the wind and follow my dreams to have my own little shop. I studied nights at the beauty academy and worked really hard. It’s been fun, exciting and terrifying, but I wouldn’t change a thing!

 3// What’s your business story?

I really love pretty nails and wanted to create a special little business that combines rad nails, with amazing service at a high quality. I think of our salon as a “sanctuary for women”, a pretty little space where they can escape the everyday stresses of work, life, kids or anything else. They can just come, relax, have a gossip, vent about their problems, laugh and then leave with rad nails! Our clients love the hang out, as much as they do the nails.

 4// Why Inglewood?

There was never any question about it! I’m an Inglewoodian, born and raised. I grew up all along Beaufort St, went to school at Inglewood primary and Mt Lawley high, and I own my apartment on Beaufort St. I love Beaufort St and Inglewood in general. So it was really important to me to bring my little boutique salon here. I wanted to be part of the local culture and help contribute to the local economy. I’m so proud to be a Beaufort St homeowner and now a Beaufort St business owner too!

5// Can you describe your customers?

I’m what you’d call a “destination shop”, my clients come from all over Perth. From Rockingham to Yanchep and everywhere in between. We service women of all walks of life, all ages and styles. Because we do everything from simple mani’s to big crazy blingy acrylics, we really do have a diverse client base.

6// What gets you out of bed in the morning?

I believe in my little empire, I adore my clients and I love my job. I never have those days where I dread getting out of bed. I’m so blessed to be able to do what I do!

7// How do you advertise your business?

8// What does a typical day look like for you?

Nails, nails, nails! Everything from simple mani’s to blinged out crazy acrylics. We do it all. I do nails 6 days per week and behind the scenes business stuff 7 days a week. Building an empire never ends.

 9// Most memorable facepalm moment?

Oh man… so many… perhaps one of the most recent was when I started painting our new shop. I got half way up the walls when it dawned on me… “oh how am I going to paint up these 4 meter high ceilings!!”. It never crossed my mind. Anyway painting was delayed until the scaffolding came in… I don’t know how I overlooked that! So our shop was half painted for a couple weeks until we got that organised!

10// What’s the most rewarding thing about running your own business?

I get to do what I love every day. Life never feels like a chore and I’m so grateful for that! I love that we can positively impact a woman’s self-esteem and confidence. They always walk out with a little extra sass in their step!

11// What’s the most surprising thing about running your own business?

How little I actually knew about running my own business… I guess you don’t always know what running your own business actually means until you’re deep in it. I’ve had to work really hard at not only becoming an amazing nail stylist but also becoming a strong business woman. I feel like I’ve still got a long way to go before I’m truly queen of my empire, but I’m still learning and pushing myself every day.

12// What’s the smartest thing you did for the first year of your business?

I took every learning opportunity I could. I went to every business course, summit, expo everything! Never stopped learning and trying to improve. Everything I’ve been to, has helped me in some way. I’m still new to business and still just figuring it out as I go.

13// Company’s motto?

BOSS nails for BOSS women!

14// Who is your role model(s)?

Lydia Kypros who owns Bronze Bombshell Beauty – the salon that I’ve been running my business out of the last 12 months. Lydia really embodies what a fantastic business owner and leader should be. I really didn’t realise how much she would influence me during my time there. When faced with decisions, I often think “what would Lydia do?”. I feel like if I can be half the leader she is to her team, then I’ll be doing ok.

15// Favourite coffee haunt?!

Betty and Dave’s!, its right next to my apartment so I can be frequently found loitering there. But also our neighbours at Chef and Co, have kept us caffeined up during salon renovations.

16// Guilty pleasure?

Boney M – don’t judge!

17// Your building is pretty amazing, was that a factor of moving in?

It ticked a lot of boxes for me. The location was right and the building was beautiful. Our salon is largely influenced by vintage styling so this little art deco shop is perfect for us. It’s how I always pictured our shop would be!
